Getting out of the kitchen and down to Business

In January, I took a deep breath, ventured out into the cold, grey, damp that is winter in the south and went legit. In other words, I got a business license that allows me to actually sell my artwork right here in Rocket City. That, in and of itself is a learning experience! We all have an image of the creative artist: paint stained clothes (and in my case hair, face hands and shoes) blissfully throwing color to canvas. But the bottom line is, there is a bottom line, and if we are going to pay the bills we have to get out of the studio (or at my house, away from the counter in my kitchen that I have usurped as studio space - and if you know anything about my cooking, you will know this is an excellent use of the kitchen).
Here is what I've learned so far
1.In Alabama, a retail business must file taxes every month - even if the total sum of sales is $0.00
2. If you screw up and think you filed, but really didn't, there is a very nice lady that e-mails you and says "Hey there! What happened?" (seriously) I suspect this is a one-time courtesy and hope not to test that theory.
3. There is a lot more to establishing an on-line presence than one might think, but it is exciting to learn new things. and for some reason, this post will not scroll down so I cannot see what I am typing. Hahaha. Clearly there is still plenty more to learn!!
